I have a sombrero, and it keeps me in soothing shade during Cinco de Mayo, which is anything but calm.

Note: My reference lists 宀 as meaning "shaped crown" and "roof," so you could also remember soothe as having a roof over your head during the hot summer providing soothing coolness.
